CLS has been selected by the European Space Agency (ESA) to monitor the Mozambique Channel via radar satellite, within the framework of the World Bank’s GEF project-Western Indian Ocean Marine Highway Development and Coastal and Marine Contamination Prevention.

Before it hit the U.S. mainland on the evening of August 27th, 2011, the European satellite ENVISAT was able to observe Hurricane Irene twice and the resulting images were analyzed by experts at CLS.

El jueves 3 febrero, nuestros analistas realizaron la prueba de fuego examinando dos imágenes de radar del satélite ENVISAT.

CLS pone toda su pericia en el tratamiento de datos altimétricos y por radar al servicio de Thomas Coville, del equipo Sodeb'O, para detectar la presencia de icebergs durante su travesía por los mares del Sur. De este modo, el navegante podrá evitar las zonas de riesgo.

In 2008, the French State, the Regional Authority and the Research and Development Institute of the University of La Réunion set up a partnership to create a centre for excellence in remote sensing, to be named SEAS-OI. As a part of this project, The Regional Council of La Réunion, appointed as the contracting authority, recently signed a 7.15 Million Euro contract with CLS, to deliver a receiving station for high-resolution satellite images, and to provide optical and radar telemetry services for a period of three years. The operation is being financed by the European Union (under the European Territorial Cooperation Programme), by the State and by the Regional Council of La Réunion, with support from the municipality of St Pierre.
